Responsibilities
50% of the role is OPERATION;
• Reads, weighs, measures, and prepares ingredients for production; labels boxes and pails accurately.
• Feeds defined quantities of ingredients/materials to hoppers and/or machines according to quality standards.
• Operates refining machines equipped with rollers to grind chocolate paste in accordance with specifications; starts conveyor to feed chocolate into refiner hoppers; feels consistency of chocolate in hoppers for defining grinding required; turns adjustment clock on the machine to adjust clearance between rollers; opens hopper starts machine that feeds chocolate between rollers of refining machine; observes thermometer or feels rollers turn water valves to obtain the specified temperature of rollers.
• Examines, feels, and tastes ground chocolate paste to ascertain if color, texture, and taste meet standards; collects sample of paste for quality analysis.
• Observes flowmeters and turn valves to measure out cocoa butter, vegetable oil, and other ingredients, according to formula, and to fortify chocolate in mixing tanks.
• Transfers refined chocolate paste into wheeled troughs or transport barrels.
• Weighs and transports barrels or skids to cold storage rooms, using a hand truck.
• Checks production parameters (temperature, moisture) and advises if they are outside implemented standards.
• Troubleshoots and resolves problems; ensures proper functioning of equipment and escalates to supervisor as required.
30% is SUPPORT
• Assists with the effective set-up, start-up, and shutdown of equipment, as required.
• Operates PLC system to transfer products to storage tanks.
• Ensures refining production reports are completed
20% is Quality/Safety & Other
• Washes and prepares equipment (e.g. trays, conveyor belts, pans, hoppers, scales, machines etc.); opens barrels/pails in a safe and timely manner
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• 2+ years in a manufacturing or food processing environment or working as a General Production Worker, Machine Operator
• Steel-toed safety shoes required
• Able to perform physically repetitive tasks while standing, walking, or sitting
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
• Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Solid command of the English language; ability to comprehend and communicate both verbally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions; work well in a team environment; interact with professionalism and respect
• Accuracy and attention to detail; able to administer and work with moderately complex documents and information
• Intermediate problem-solving and time management skills; able to organize and accomplish tasks within set timeframes
• Able to work in a variety of environments including wet, humid, particulate (dusty), cold, hot
• Strong can-do/ service attitude; capable of dealing with uncertainty
• Possess a continuous improvement and learning orientation; adaptable and open to change
WORKING CONDITIONS
• 80-90% of the day is spent standing, walking, bending, stooping/reaching.
• Repetitive upper body (hand, arm, shoulder, back) motion is required
• Lower body activity is common to frequent (bending, lifting, pushing/pulling, twisting) including regular lifting and/or moving items up to 50 lbs
